Āgenskalns is the historic core of Pārdaugava, Riga's left bank, a neighbourhood of roughly 600 wooden buildings, leafy streets and a distinctively local character that contrasts with the grandeur across the river. Its anchors are the beautifully restored Kalnciema Quarter, a 19th-century complex of wooden houses now hosting one of the city's most popular organic-and-crafts markets, and the renovated Āgenskalns Market hall. Artists, students and young families have driven a steady revival. For investors, Āgenskalns is among Riga's most compelling gentrification stories: prices remain mid-range while popularity and appreciation expectations (~5–9%) run ahead of the city average.
